Very interesting - and frightening - indeed...,
This review is from: Zig Zag: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
Zig Zag, though I was put off by the title, is a brilliant book. It seems, as Somoza's writing progresses, that he is becoming more and more fascinated with horror. It really was incredibly tense and disturbing at times. And though the language is somewhat average at first viewing, he is clearly doing something right, as a very vivid atmosphere is created throughout. Perhaps it was the pacing.
I would have to heartily disagree with the previous reviewer - it is certainly NOT your average page-turner. Somoza's creativeness with material, and his sheer balls when it comes to scope, are highly rewarding and his writing is always refreshingly well-researched. The physics involved, especially for a layperson, are fascinating.
If you have not done so, read The Athenian Murders and The Art of Murder (in the original titles, the word 'murder' is nowhere to be found!)
Anyway, Thumbs up!
