Contains some really great pop songs,
This review is from: Robyn (Special Edition) (Audio CD)
After the release of her first album "Robyn Is Here" back in 1997, Robyn did release two further albums in Sweden but they not released internationally. Unhappy with the direction her major record label wanted her to take, a whole decade passed before she was able to bring us another worldwide distributed album. Simply titled "Robyn" and released on her own record label, Konichiwa Records, it includes some of the best written pop tracks you will get to hear this decade.
"Cobrastyle" is a catchy dance influenced pop track with an incredibly cool vibe. "Handle Me" is a sweet mid-tempo R&B influenced pop number, reminiscent of work from her debut album. The smart and infectious "Be Mine" is one of the best constructed songs I have heard and the lead single "With Every Heartbeat" is an anthemic and addictive dance track. To add to these very successful tracks, the ballad "Eclipse" is a lovely gentle and soothing composition. All of these tracks work so well because they have fabulous production and are amazingly well written.
The other tracks are good. "Bum Like You", "Who's That Girl" and "Crash And Burn Girl" are pleasant dance tracks. "Should Have Known Better" is a cool groovy track and "Anything You Like" is a cute ballad. "Jack You Off", written by Prince, is a fun way to end the album. There is one disappointing track in "Robotboy" which is very childish and gimmicky. Nevertheless, this album deserves 4 stars and is a must buy for fans of solid dance and pop tracks.
This special edition version of the album "Robyn" includes three bonus tracks: "Dream On", another excellent dance track, the irresistable "Keep This Fire Burning" from her third album "Don't Stop The Music" and a sweet piano version of "Show Me Love" from her debut "Robyn Is Here".
