A good book,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Für Volk and Führer. The Memoir of a Veteran of the 1st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler (Hardcover)
A well written book, but, yet again, another member of the Waffen SS, who had no knowledge of the atrocities committed by the SD.
It reminds me of my service in Germany - it was not until 1970 that someone owned up to fighting the English during the war, they all appeared to have been fighting on the Ostfront.
A good book though

History Man says:
On page 64, Bartmann does indeed castigate the SD, describing them as 'swine' and 'vindictive' in their searching out of Jews, which Bartmann describes as the SD's 'dirty work'. He also alludes to the murder of Jews by the SD and the commandeering of several members of the Leibstandarte for that purpose.
Given that the Leibstandarte was constantly on the front line, it is entirely credible that even though atrocities were committed in the vicinity in which they operated, many of the Waffen SS soldiers would not have witnessed them. Erwin Bartmann fully acknowledges that they happened.
