Review #100: One release to rule them all!,
This review is from: The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy (Extended Edition) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - The Extended Edition on Blu-Ray is by far the greatest release so far - no question about it! We've waited almost ten years for this release but now it's finally here within our grasp. And what a beautiful edition this is! Gorgeous case truly worthy of the greatest film trilogy ever produced in film making history.
A number of people have been complaining about a faint green tint hindering the Middle-Earth experience. But I see no such problem! The green tint is barely noticable and stands as a highly insignificant obstacle towards viewing perfection - and OH! FYI it IS viewing perfection! The picture and sound is more dazzeling than ever before! It's almost like wathing it all for the first time - brilliant.
And what's up with the people complaining about the 2-disc split? Is it really that hard to change disc? No... It isn't... Besides I don't really think we have a choice. When we are dealing with movies that last 3-4+ hours each, the movies have to divide in order to preserve the best picture and not to jeopardize the viewing experince! I couldn't think of anything more necessary... perfect.
Although I have to agree with man here and say it's a great shame that the bonus material is not given to us in high def. It's a shame but on the other hand understandable. Around the year 2000 where the movies were being produced, HD was by far not as standard as it is today, more than 11 years later, so the quality of the cameras set to film the bonus features were not able to film in HD as most cameras are able to today. If the people behind this edition were to upscale the bonus features it would completetly slaughter the quality of the picture. Too bad, but at the end of the day I think many will agree that the only thing that is of great importance is that the films look crystal clear and in high def.
I am just very grateful that we finally can experience Peter Jackson's epic masterpiece in flawless blu-ray quality, and I genuinely consider this incredible piece of adventure the KING of my Blu-ray collection!
It was also immediatly crowned king when i first bought the DVD version but time passed and the balance of power shifted to another piece of the collection, but now it's back at the top! So i guess you can call this THE RETURN OF THE KING!
Welcome back my lord, welcome back!
