It's Been a Pleasure, Boys,

This review is from: Hidden Sign (Audio CD)
A year after Hearts and Knives and Visage release the fourth single from the album and it's a corker, it really is. Now, you might think that four singles from a ten track album is milking it a little and with some bands I'd tend to agree but all four tracks selected as singles from Hearts and Knives have been very strong, with perhaps only "Dreamer I Know" being a surprise, although it's still a track I like.
"Hidden Sign" was the obvious choice after the last single, the fantastic "Never Enough". Again Visage give us value for money with an amazing eight tracks. Not all of them are essential obviously, but there are some real strong remixes on here. I agree with the other reviewers that the near nine minute Extended Mix is excellent, just like extended mixes used to be in the 80s. I also like the Kim and Buran Disco Version, which apart from missing strings, could be a long lost Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards classic. Once again, the bass of Steve Barnacle holds the whole shebang together (as with the aforementioned "Never Again" and "Dreamer I Know") and in places all you hear are Steve's vocals, drums and that throbbing bass. Brilliant. Shame there's not a vinyl version, but you can't have it all, I don't suppose.
"Hidden Sign" will be, I imagine, the last single culled from the album although "She's Electric" has potential, but that probably WOULD be a single too far. Now that Visage have shown us they have lost none of their knack for writing superb pop songs I hope we'll be getting another new album in the future.
The last twelve months have seen one album and four singles of high quality music from one of my favourite bands and 34 years after buying my first Visage record with my dinner money their music is still as exciting and innovative as ever. It really has been a pleasure.
Buy. It. Now.
