Is that it?,
This review is from: Living the Linger: A Surreal Road Trip Across the USA (Paperback)Nice that so many readers have enjoyed this book but I have to disagree.
Take the review: "the brothers are taken on a roller coaster ride of paranoia and self-doubt as they bumble through bear-infested wilderness..." They don't meet a bear; just other walkers.. "..encounter modern-day ogres in the form of bullwhip-wielding maniacs and explore the evils of Las Vegas." The bullwhip-wielding "maniac", (only one), is as far from a maniac as you can get, and just happens to collect bullwhips. He invites these two english blokes to a party, then naturally gets concerned about his sister during the evening when he can't find her. Las Vegas chapter was a joke. Where is the story? They take several hundred dollars to Vegas one evening, spend the lot on drink and a lap-dancing club, and discover they have a hangover in the morning! Give me a break.
The conversations between the brothers are embarrassing half the time, with pointless name calling and swearing. Do these, obviously intelligent brothers really talk to each other like that? I found it unconvincing.
I could write about my week in Houston. Just beef it up a bit to make it seem interesting, add lashings of swearing and send it to Samosir Books.
I thought this sounded such an interesting book but now I say, don't waste your money.
