Taking it as a whole,
This review is from: British Beat Before The Beatles 1955-1962 (Audio CD)There are now many of these sort of collections of British Beat before the Beatles including about 4 on the Decca label.
And its also rather amazing when you discover what was out there. For musical incompetence there's Larry Page with his covers of Start Movin' and That'll be the day-in fact it was Page's photo on the first sheet music of this song.
There's somebody called Paul Raven who ended up in the 70s as Gary Glitter and among all the covers is the original version of Apache.
Clearly the winners in the originality stakes were Cliff & the Shadows
