This album, which preceded the phenomenal success of Blood Sugar Sex Magik, is completely brilliant and pretty damn funky. Things are kicked off with the interesting Good Time Boys, the lyrics on this are to die for, not everyone agrees, but I think they are good. Higher Ground follows, this is an excellent cover and does Stevie Wonder justice. Then comes Subway To Venus, one of my personal favourites, Kiedis' vocals are very in your face. Magic Johnson appears then, which confused me for ages, I could ever tell what they were singing, but this is a funky track. Nobody Weird Like me isn't that exceptional, but I love the chorus. Knock me Down is completely groovy, and then we are on to Taste The Pain, another one of my favourites. Stone Cold Bush is very catchy, but it can't compete with fire, which is the most ridiculous and yet brilliant song ever. Pretty Little Ditty is really...well, pretty. Then comes Punk Rock Classic, with very fast vocals, but none the less, the lyrics are to think about. Then is the slightly obscene masterpiece of Sexy Mexican Maid, which most of my friends refuse to listen to. I, however, think it is fan-bloody-tastic, despite ( or perhaps because of ) the lyrics. Lastly comes Johnny, Kick A Hole In The Sky. This song is such an insanely funky epic that it will have singing along loudly. This song also includes some very interesting lyrics.
Overall, an exceptional album, you must buy this, and if you can, I have three words of advice for you:
See Them Live.
