Would do it again tomorrow!,
This review is from: Effective Birth Preparation (Hospital or Birth Centre): Self Hypnosis (Natal Hypnotherapy Programme) (Audio CD)
This was to be my 5th birth and by 34 weeks I was getting the usual nerves and anxieties when I just chanced upon this CD on Amazon. All my previous births had been long and arduous labours where I had felt completely out of control and often frightened, especially my 4th which was the only one I had in hospital and where I suppose I felt I would feel safer, I think I realised then that the only person to help me was myself. An actual hypnotherapy course was beyond my budget, and to be honest I wasn't sure that I completely bought it anyway. Then I came across the CD and thought it was worth a shot, even if it just calmed me down and gave me a positive outlook.
I have the fondest memories of listening to the CD in my final weeks, I had a really bad back so would lie on a birthing ball covered in a warm blanket sprinkled with lavendar oil, obviously having other children these moments were pretty sacred anyway and I felt I was really making the most of them and doing something positive and empowering. It was such an opportunity to bond with the new baby, I felt the womans voice was lovely and soothing and I really began to feel excited about the birth and curious as to whether I could make this work.
To cut a long story short, I had the most fantastic, easy home birth which I truly believe was down to this Cd and all I learnt on it. The Midwives were so impressed with how I handled everything (I just kept remembering that if I was in a coma my body would give birth and I didn't have to do anything just ride it out) My 2nd baby had been born back to back causing me to panic and then tear quite badly, but this time when they told me he was back to back I just kept calm, managing to follow all their instructions, and deliver him in minutes. After the birth I just wasn't exhausted or traumatised as I had been with the others, it just felt truly magical, I had kept listening to the CD throughout the birth and my husband and the midwives found it also really useful, because it was giving me all the encouragement I needed.
I since recommended this to my sister who gave birth to a daughter at home 12 weeks later with similar magical experiences. I really hope people will read this review and feel inspired to give it a go- I really was sceptical myself but I'm absolutely converted (my Mum was at my sisters recent birth and says she wishes she knew about it for her 6 births!)You really can own your birth and it can be a beautiful pain free experience.
