Not For Anoraks,
By A Customer
This review is from: Scott Walker in 5 Easy Pieces (Audio CD)
Well, at least that's what the compiler of this set helpfully (?) tells us in the seriously scant sleeve notes. He goes on to say that this box set was intended for listening (really?)and will not, therefore, contain outakes etc. etc. Mostly made up of tracks from five previouly released CDs - Scott 1 to 4 plus 'Til The Band Comes In, it includes a number of harder to find tracks from soundtracks and projects where Walker worked as producer. The quality of the material cannot be doubted and, clearly if you are prepared to shell out the not insignifanct 35 pounds, then you are obviously a fan (but hopefully not an anorak - the term 'bite the hand that feeds you' comes to mind here ...)and won't need convincing on this score. However, be prepared to be disappointed with the packaging and presentation. Since clearly box sets are not designed for the casual listener but, instead, die hard fan - or 'anorak', you would think Universal/Mercury might have shown a bit more understanding as to what those people want and it is not tracks they have already got on other - easily available - CDs. If they are going to put up with endless duplication and have to forego rare, unreleased tracks, then at least the set might contain intelligently written, detailed notes and with hopefully some good pictures, all in a beautifuly designed package that might reflect it's high end price ticket. Sadly, this is not that box-set.
