The Gospel Road,
This review is from: Gospel Road [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] (DVD)
I bought this as present for my wife and had no great expectations of it...But I was wrong. Musically this is top drawer and if you are a Christian ,or even have feeling for your fellow man, it is profoundly moving. There is a sensitivity, creativity, and patent sincerity about this film that belies its age and any stereotypes you might have about american gospel and Johny Cash.Visually it is stunning (filmed on location in Israel), and emotionally it is at times overpowering. I would go so far as to say in its own way it is a poetic masterpiece.
Do not be put off by the fact the actor who portrays Jesus (the director) is blond! Cash said when the film came out that everyone feels at some point they have do do something meaningful in their life and that that's what this film is to him. He co-produced,and co-wrote the film. He narrates it and sings most of the songs.....Top notch

Totally agree. I first watched this film in 1976 when i was 14. it was shown to me at my School in Truro Cornwall and i was impacted by it - especially the cricifixion. I never forgot it. When i found it for sale on DVD at Amazon i was delighted. Fantastic film. Would recommend it highly. The songs have stayed with me for 33 years. Ruth

Does anyone know how I can get a copy of The Gospel Road DVD that I can watch on an English CD player. I saw it over 30 years ago and have a copy of the music and lyrics but I would love to be able to buy a copy of the DVD.

Hi, Lesley. I think the DVD is only available from the US in the US region 1 format. So you need a multi region (region 0) DVD player. These will play DVDs from any world region. Often existing Uk (region 2) players can be modified to become region 0 by keying in codes via the handset., but you may have to google for the codes. Multi region players in any case can be brought quite cheaply on Amazon.
