It's good to me,
This review is from: Minder (Paperback)
This slim novel provides the back story to the phenomenal TV series Minder, introducing the main characters Terry and Arthur and explaining how they met and came to form their uneasy, unequal partnership. It is far darker and grittier in tone and content than anything the show attempted, with the exception of its very early episodes, and with far less of the comedy that was the chief characteristic and, in some ways, weak point of the programme towards its end run. Griffiths is not a great stylist and the story is not particularly in depth or detailed, but it does offer a fascinating slice of London life from the pred-digital late 70's and great insights into the motivations and thinking of these two fantastic ficitional characters. Minder would have made a fantastic pilot episode and stands up well as an independent story in its own right, a glimpse of what the show might have been had it stuck with its original focus on Terry rather than Arthur.
