This review is from: PHP 5: Your Visual Blueprint for Creating Open Source, Server-Side Content (Paperback)
I was very satisfied with the earlier version of Your visual blueprint books, having learned ASP and Mysql with great ease and quick progress. They were concise, clear and right to the point and give good relevant examples.
This new PHP5 however has lost the teaching touch. To start with the layout is different from the original series. The examples are squeezed one on top of the other. As a result the prints are getting smaller and much more difficult to read. The worse part are the explainations which are given in one continuous breath and in an unclear fashion. I had to read it again and again to try to understand. Some text give only abstract explanation with no supporting examples (e.g.print a formatted string.) All in all the new version suffers both visually and contextually. I wish I had bought the older version of PHP: although it is not so up to date, at least you can grasp more material. Dear publishers, please keep the good old way.
