Possible fault on mono disc,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Electric Music For The Mind And Body (Audio CD)
Has anyone yet listened to the latest mono CD just released (April 2013)? I have given the disc 5 stars as the music fully justifies it but the end of track 3 (Death Sound), on the mono copy only, appears to be cut short abruptly. It is not on the stereo copy or any stereo LP I have ever owned or listened to. I have known this album since it was issued and it is a truly sensational piece of music which, apart from the possible fault noted, actually does sound better in the mono version. Help!!!

Hi Michael I mentioned this in my review too. I have only ever owned the stereo vinyl and earlier CD so I don't know if the original mono version ended like this or not. If you check the timings of the mono and stereo mixes on this new package you will see that they are different and the mono is shorter at 4:13 the stereo runs to 4:22, so the mono mix does run to its stated length. Perhaps someone who has heard the original vinyl mono mix can help? The picture of the tape box in the sleeve shows 4:21 for the mono master so perhaps the tape was damaged at the end of the track? There is a curious lack of info about the tape sources used for this release - if the stereo master was unusable what was used? and is the mono mix a first generation master? Still - some great music!! though!!

Hi James, there was a fault with the first pressing of the mono disc of our remastered version (this only emerged on Friday so we are just playing catch up now). The manufacturers have collected the stock and we should get corrected copies back by the middle of this week. If you could send your details to ace on social (at) acerecords (dot) com we will send you a corrected first disc. Apologies for this error, we're just trying to contact everyone now. Neil @ Ace

Thanks Neil - I received my replacement copy (in Australia) this morning. This is a brilliant reissue and Ace must be commended for addressing the problem immediately.

I have now also received a replacement disc one from Ace and they have resolved the problem with track 3 finishing too soon. If track 3 on your disc one runs to 4:13 then contact Ace for a replacement. Many thanks to Neil at Ace for excellent customer service!
I would love to know the story behind this highly unusual slip-up by Ace, and also how they managed to produce the stereo version of the album when the original master-tape was unusable!
