Still my favourite,
This review is from: Bach: Mass in B minor (Audio CD)
I've had this recording for while, and it is still my favourite. The playing is, yes precise and clean (as if this is a bad thing?), but often sublime or full of energy. I particularly like the woodwind playing, as in the opening kyrie eleison or "et in spiritum sanctum" where the duetting bassoon and oboe accompany the aria. The Monteverdi choir and EBS are as usual excellent. The soloists all seem to be top notch. The acoustics is also not too echoy, so the performance is not 'lost' in it.
Of course this is all personal taste, so if thinking of buying this recording, then it is probably worth checking it out and comparing it with other recordings, as Gardiner seem to divide opinion!
