"Predators" on BLU RAY - Compatibility Issues With The `US' Disc...,
This review is from: Predators [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Like most fans I've seen all the "Alien" and "Predator" films and for the longest time have felt most of the later issues are just treading water. 2010's "Predators" went back to the gut-wrenching adrenaline chase of the Arnold Schwarzenegger/Carl Weathers jungle original and restored the faith for many.
Plucked from Earth - a group of convicts, misfits and generally expendable types (Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Alicia Braga and Danny Trejo to name but a few) are literally dropped from the sky in parachutes onto an identikit planet and left to fend for themselves. But of course hiding in the trees behind cloaking devices are our steel-helmeted purring friends with a hankering to remove a human spine with a really big Bowie knife (I get like that on the 212 bus to Chingford sometimes).
Navigating hostile foliage, fleet-of-foot ravenous creatures and cleverly set death traps - they meet a survivor of previous hunts (Laurence Fishburne holed up in the bowls of an abandoned craft). Noland is going mad but may have a way off the multiple-mooned rock. The hunt is on/the escape continues. But will Royce (a buffed up Brody) who is now assumed leader of the pack survive? And how and with whom?
However fans should note that if you buy - avoid the tempting low price of the 20th Century Fox 'US' edition on BLU RAY. It's REGION A LOCKED and therefore won't play on our machines unless they're chipped to be 'all regions' (which few are). Go for the UK variant instead - it's cheap as chips too and looks fabulous on the format into the bargain.
So folks "Predators" - cover your face and pecks with mud, set up a campfire in the centre of your living room, get out that huge kitchen knife you only use at Christmas and slash your way through this rather good little turkey shoot without fear of the wife asking you "is that fried brains I smell again my darling one?"...
