Comprehensive, but readable study of a complex subject,

I wanted to read this book as part of research for a project, so needed a comprehensive, yet broad enough context for someone who has little understanding of the subject.
And that is exactly what I got.
Coltan is one of the most valuable resources in the world. Barely a decade ago no-one had heard of the mineral, but now it has become absolutely central to our modern existence. It is used in the manufacture of mobile phones and laptops.
It is mined primarily in the Congo, where it's production is managed by feudal warlords in brutal conditions, often mined by children.
This book shows how the mineral connects tribal warlords, multi-national corporations, celebrities, activists, and how all of us are in some complicit in the horrors committed in its name.
Nest approaches the subject in an informed and easy to read way, bringing together complex political, geopolitical and ethical ideas in a manner which helps to understand a demanding subject matter.
If you want to comes to terms with this fascinating and disturbing topic, then this is the best place to start.
