Definitely don't judge this by its cover!,
This review is from: King of the Wa-Kikuyu: A True Story of Travel and Adventure in Africa (Resnick Library of African Adventure) (Paperback)This is a really excellent book about someone who is almost completely unknown these days. Despite being written 100-or-so years ago it is a remarkably good read, especially interesting once you get past the bits about his early life and into how he communicated with, and gradually won round, various tribes in East Africa. The cover looks rather tacky and makes the poor guy look like he was from the Wild West, but don't be fooled by this: it's a really worthwhile read for anyone looking for some background on what Africa was like in the early days of colonialisation, or who just wants an incredible but true story to read!
