Initially fun but I didn't get caught up in the drama,

This review is from: La Chartreuse de Parme (The Charterhouse of Parma, French Language Edition) (French Edition) (Kindle Edition)(no spoiler in my review.) I guess it is the way people wrote at the time: a bit show-off and aristocratic detachment. I got through about 2/3 of the book and then lost interest. The characters should be interesting: the hero is a charming adventurous passionate young aristocrat, his beautiful worldly aunt is passionate about him, they all enjoy beating the aristocratic conservative system while at the same time being part of it. There is a lot happening: battles, setbacks and victories in the aristocratic courts & narrow escapes from the police. But I never quite got to the point where i cared about these people & the outcome.
