4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Horror Remake, 7 April 2013
This review is from: Come Out And Play [DVD] (DVD)
This tale of a holiday gone wrong is a remake of the infamous 70's cult shocker 'Who Can Kill A Child' and features a group of kids on a remote Mexican island who suddenly one night undergo a transformation and turn into feral killers.(The reason for this is not given!).
Sounds ridiculous of course, but first time Director MAKINOV (?) plays it straight and delivers a watchable horror pic with some gruesome scenes controversially featuring the kids themselves.
A thirty-something couple (Francis and the pregnant Beth) arrive on the island via a hired boat the morning after the children have all turned a bit 'weird'.Apart from the kids themselves the place seems devoid of any adults. The cafes and shops are eerily deserted.
But shortly afterwards Francis witnesses an injured old man beaten to death by some of the youths and after coming across a 'survivor' he learns the strange truth of what has happened on this beautiful slice of paradise.
Trying to escape the kids proves difficult as the little buggers seem to be everywhere, swiftly moving across the island as if there was a massive sale on at the local Toys R Us!.
Overall COAP is a decent chiller in the same vein as Children Of The Corn and the 1960 movie 'Village Of The Damned' where the glowing-eyed children terrorized the children of Midwich.
Recommended for a nice late-night viewing with a calming drink by your side, but best make sure the kids are in bed.We don't want to give them any ideas now do we?.
