Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Belkin Energy Saving Valet USB Charging Station (Accessory)
Right firstly this is the kit that I wanted to be able to charge:
- iPhone 4S
- iPhone 5
- iPad 2
- Samsung galaxy s3
- Acer iconia b1
So five products into total but only 4 USB ports I hear you say? Well I am obviously only charging 4 at a time. In fact the 4S is now surplus to requirements, but I list for completeness as it's good to know an iPhone with both connector types charges ok. Now it was with some trepidation that I bought this as I had read people claimed this device did not charge their tablets. Being a little fool hardy I bought it anyway, such was the lure of a charger that promised to reduce the size of my carbon footprint.
At first I tried the Acer android tablet, no problems there. Similarly with both iPhones and the Galaxy S3, all plugged into the rear USB ports at the same time. No problems. Then I tried the iPad and instantly got the charging indication pop up on screen, sadly followed about a nano second later by the words "not charging" in the top right of the iPads display. So I then disconnected it and everything else and tried again to charge the iPad (to see if the other devices connected simultaneously was causing the problem). The problem was repeated. So next I tried swapping the generic cable I had been using for the original, and yep, you guessed it, still not charging. Never one to let the blindingly obvious put me off, I thought I'd just let it charge anyway and pop back in a couple of hours to see if it had made any progress. Much to my astonishment it had actually been charging! So I plugged all the devices back in, and found they all charged, including both iPhones (I swapped one for another after an hour or so).
The charge times seem to be much the same as the dual port USB charger I had been using before. So yes tablets are quite slow to charge, but I'm used to that. I simply pop my phones and tablets on to charge when I get home, knowing that when I plug a new device in it will start charging straight away. The charger loses a star for making me work out if my iPad was charging or not. Also the little cut outs at the front do not do a great job of holding cables, and it's probably a little unnecessarily large. It would have been far better if the charger was smaller and better able to manage cables, rather than be a supposed "valet" to pop your phone on whilst charging (but that's just my preference).
