This review is from: Dance Dance Dance (Paperback)
I 'discovered' Murakami entirely by chance, reading A Wild Sheep Chase - wonderful in its own right, and a five star, if there ever was one - but Dance Dance Dance is entirely in a category of its own: magical, evocative, stirring, thoughtful... I could go on for hours.
Murakami prose (and, lest we forget, respect to Birnbaum: can't have been easy to translate it from Japanese!) borders on poetry, makes you feel like you are virtually there, going through the main character's feelings and emotions - a complex charactre whom, by the way, we don't know the name of... very much like in Wild Sheep Chase (which I suggest to read before this one, which, if not really a sequel, takes up the story a few years afterwards the chase).
Definitely recommended reading - only wish I'd found Murakami earlier!
