How much suspense can you take ?,
This review is from: Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince: Children's Edition (Harry Potter 6) (Hardcover)
An easy if overlong read but importantly still well within the grasp of child readers (6 - 7 yrs + I'd suggest). Our 10 yr old doesn't seem so interested as he was in the first 4 books & I think that as the size of the books (500+ pages) has grown, the amount of "padding" has also increased. I certainly feel that as with the 5th book there is about 400-500 pages of surplus material. The ending is dramatic but as ever inconclusive. So in reality the events that were set in place at the end of the 4th book (you know who's return), are very little further forward after two more books and c. 1,000 pages of text. Frustrating and dissapointing that it might another 2-3 yrs before there's any chance of something approaching a conclusion, but at the same time I admire J.K. for sticking with a tough ending and not bowing to Hollywood, who no doubt must try to exert pressure on the content.
