Some Updating of Software is needed that is all, and ready to go.,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: HP 455 15.6-inch Laptop (AMD A6-5350 2.7GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Windows 8 Professional 64-Bit Downgraded to Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit) (Personal Computers)
Reviews here cover both the AMD A4 and A6 processor. This review is the A6 model.
I wasn't sure how the Windows 7 Pro downgrading option would work.
What it means is that Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit is installed and ready to go with additional installation 2 DVD's for Windows 8 Pro 64 Bit and Drivers included.(this model does have an optical DVD Drive).
All the Windows 7 Software and Recovery, however, are on 2 protected partitions on the hard drive as Drive D & E.
I always backup all partitions on my hard drive externally as soon as all updates are complete. You will find that initially a lot of updates need to complete and also some of the HP Drivers too will prompt for an update.
One annoying feature (to me anyway but you may love it) is the constant prompting to set up fingerprint detection security, drive encryption, client security and theft recovery. Unless completed it will continue to pop up at every start up. As the laptop was intended as a gift and I was only setting it up for them I didn't want to impose passwords and security questions or read my fingerprints.
It took me some time to find out that I could uncheck " Do not Prompt" in the HP Client Administration Console to delay this.
The display initially looked a bit washed out and lacking in both contrast and colour saturation and is fairly critical in the angle of the screen when viewing to get the best picture. If you right click anywhere on the desktop you will get as the first option "AMD Catalyst Control Centre" -My Built in Displays-Display Colour. Here you can add contrast and saturation and reduce the brightness a bit as a default setting. The Function (Fn) keys also act as a quick and additional brightness control.
The AMD A6 processor with 4 GB RAM and Windows 7 64 Bit is more than adequate for the intended need as a Laptop for Uni.
The option to put Windows 8 on in the future at no cost is welcome when they eventually get that OS better suited to normal desktop applications on future updates promised.
Very pleased with the balance of cost and up to date features on this mid range laptop replacing a Windows XP Sony Vaio with an Intel i3 and 512MB Ram which now seems very slow in comparison.
