Great device, shame about iTunes,
This review is from: Apple 8GB 4th Generation iPod Touch (Black) (Electronics)
This is a great device.
I bought it mainly for email, web and app use, which it provides in an extremely handy format. The hardware quality of the device is superb, and the usability is superb.
These pluses are well known for the iPod series, so let's turn to some minuses:
I also use it for music. Depending on how your music is encoded, 8GB is not a lot, if you intend to use it a lot for music I would go for the highest storage model. The supplied headphones are pretty poor. I listen mainly to classical music, and like many devices of its type (but unlike the iPad), the combination of device and headphones is not great at reproducing music of highly variable dynamic range. It is better with other headphones, but best still to choose in-ear as (again like other smaller devices), it has trouble supplying enough oomph to the larger ones.
The big problem in my view with all Apple mobile devices is iTunes, which is unwieldy and frankly irritating. Of course with Apple you expect to be pretty locked in to their software and sales, and I don't hate iTunes enough not to use them. But I wish they'd revisit the user interface from the ground up and make it more usable. It's not even that pretty either!
