Velbon Monopod - Ultra Stick L50/50LX,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Velbon Ultra Stick L50 Aluminium Monopod (Camera)
The Velbon L50 & 50LX are basically the same model, despite what some websites say about updated versions etc. Its light, fits easily into your bag but needs a quick release attachment for ease of use. You need to take your time setting this up as hurrying will only result in not securing the legs properly & causing more frustration as you probably have your camera mounted by now. Its not as steady as I thought it would be (even if you don't use the smallest/thinnest leg extension) and needs something solid to wedge it against to stop it moving about while composing/shooting. I didn't get a pan & tilt head so could not use the camera in vertical mode and found some normal shots difficult to get right as well, this was probably a mistake. You should get a pan/tilt head with a quick release attachment even for normal shooting as I think this would turn it into a much better unit all round. I don't experience these problems with normal tripods but they are much more onerous to take on hols with you. If you get the right bits it should be a good travel companion with a little bit of practice. Also, Velbon technical support is superb & their advise can/will guide you through the maze of attachment options to find the best one for you.
