Excellent collection of the early albums,
This review is from: Thompson Twins Box Set (Audio CD)
This collection is not new - the albums were available individually. It is very nice (and affordable) to have all in one box. Quick Step & Side Kick, Into The Gap and Here's To Future Days are EXCELLENT. Here are the drawbacks:
I am a huge fan of the first two albums, A Product Of and Set. Both are here, with just about all the b-sides (one live track is missing). Unfortunately, the remastering is horrendous, especially on the singles. The albums are a little better, but the original LPs sound much better. Obviously corners were cut on these two albums. Also, while understandable due to time constraints, it is a shame that the final b-side, the live version of, is missing, as those live tracks give an interesting glimpse into the original band. There are a few other live recordings of the early days that I would love to hear again, and there was a radio session from this period, too, which was released in the late 80s. Anyway, I was not able to part ways with my record collection from the first two albums.
The second major drawback is the omission of the Close To The Bone album, of which there were enough mixes to create an expanded edition, plus they could have included the Greatest Mixes album in the box, which was, albeit cheap, a pretty good collection.
