This review is from: Faithful unto Death (Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby Novels) (Paperback)
I have deducted one point because there is one aspect of the unfolding drama that is very easy to guess right from the start. I kept thinking "Why does no one explore that possibility?" However, and although it turned out, inevitably, that I had guessed right (I don't mean inevitably because I am an incredibly gifted amateur sleuth but simply because it was amazingly obvious) the story still gripped me and as always I read on and on until I had reached the final page. And just as always Caroline Graham's character depiction is near perfect: accurate, detailed, sympathetic, astute and her style impeccable. Add to that her witty prose ( I really laughed this time when reading about Troy nearly dislocating his jaw while trying to prise it open after having consumed one of Mrs Molfrey's delicacies...)The more of her novels I read the more I have to deplore that she wrote so few of her excellent Barnaby stories.
