works for me.,
This review is from: Bringing It All Back Home (Paperback)Within a page or two of Ian Claytons book I was back in my childhood listening to our nextdoor neighbour Elsie telling my mother about her husbands diagnosis of diabetesn"Ernies got sugar"she said.A few more pages on and I swear I had my feet under his Grans table waiting for tea.
But this is no whippets and clogs meander of a book, for Ian,as I suppose us all, music creates staging posts in our personal histories to which we can anchor events and mark our maturing.I would love to hear Ians musical autobiography-a song for each year!
The book illustrates a phenomenal breadth and depth of the feel for music and song from his beloved Billie Holliday through Gearge Formby to the Sex Pistols. He seems to take something from each and dismiss nothing.
The book marks a new and vibrant way of writing about twentieth century popular music which connects the reader to the subject through resonance with the readers life.
Ian Clayton is a writer of great style and talent-I am so impressed. David Wilmot,Brandon Creek Norfolk.
