Shocked and disappointed,
This review is from: RSPB Handbook of British Birds (Paperback)
I am a keen birder and I was actually given this by someone. I'd heard lots about it and was looking forward to receiving it.
In actual fact it is hopeless. The illustrations are the worst part of it as generally they look like caricatures, and bear no actual resemblance to a real bird. Flicking through I'm just amazed that this has had such a good reaction from many people.
The information is good, but I had all that in my old book to which I have now returned (the Wings Bird identification book, published in 1997, if anyone's interested!). The main issue I have with this book is that if you see an unknown bird this book will not help as the illustrations are too poor to assist in any identification. It sits on my shelf and never gets used any more. Just got too frustrated with it! Very disappointing, and from the RSPB as well. Very poor show.
