England's Most Memorable King...,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Sunne in Splendour (Paperback)
Despite the years of black words and accusations levelled against Richard III's name, still he continues to be one of the most fascinating and well known of our Mediaeval monarchs.
The Fifteenth century is a brilliant setting for any novel and, having studied a great deal on this period myself, I was fascinated and thrilled by Penman's historical accuracy, bringing the long-dead characters alive in a way that can almost be believed as canon, if it weren't for the fierce historical debate that still rages.
There exists in my mind no better portrayal of Richard III in novel form than this, despite the tragic ending. As someone who feels history has done Richard a severe disservice in it's recording of him, I have to highly recommend Penman's story.
The Wars of the Roses have never been so real.
