Chock full of great stuff for entrepreneurs and cornerstones,
This review is from: In the Company of Heroes: Release Your Entrepreneurial Spirit and YourOrganization: Release Your Entrepreneurial Spirit - And Your Organizations (Paperback)
This is an excellent companion to The Beermat Entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs and cornerstones will find many techniques here for those key tasks of financial control and ramping up sales. The book is especially strong on the 'Mighty Oak' stage of growth, which 'Beermat' deliberately skimmed over as it was well covered in existing books. This is exactly the kind of book we had in mind.
The author is a highly experienced entrepreneur and consultant - the best kind of consultant, one who has been through the stuff they are advising others about - and it shows. There is a real understanding of the entrepreneurial process, from those early days when you have to 'beg, borrow and befriend' to get the business off the ground, through to the time of growth, when you have to keep 'revitalizing and reinventing' the business to stop it getting stale. There is a particularly useful chapter on 'survival' for businesses that have failed to do the latter and need to escape the rut.
The author also had a mission, to change the stereotype of the entrepreneur from spiv to unsung hero or heroine (hence the title). Events have probably overtaken this, and if anything, the entrepreneur now needs a gentle tip off their pedestal - if I have a criticism of this book, it is that it assumes that entrepreneurs can learn how to do everything, when we reckon they're better off getting 'cornerstones' in their team to do some of this stuff. However this is a minor niggle at an otherwise excellent book. Master the techniques presented in 'The Company of Heroes', and you'll be well placed to succeed!
