What were you expecting?,
This review is from: Monkey: Journey To The West (Audio CD)
Having read the other reviews on here I have one question for the reviewers who gave it 1 star, "What were you expecting?" It is the soundtrack of a stage show sung in Mandarin in a Chinese opera style. I haven't seen the show (well only a few bits on YouTube), but I know the story and this combined with the track titles have allowed me to use my imagination as to what is going on just by listening to the music. Albarn has done a very good job in his portrayal of the action through the use of the music. My only complaint is that alot of the tracks are only a few minutes long and some not even that. Very much a collection of radio friendly pieces in terms of track lengths. The outstanding track on the album has to be Monkey Bee by the way, especially as the tempo pick up with a couple of minutes to go.
