Entertaining sci-fi/horror starring American man mountain Forrest Tucker as Alan Brooke, a scientist sent to investigate a mysterious cloud. Made in 1958 by Hammer Studios and written by Hammer stalwart Jimmy Sangster, the Crawling Eye aka the Trollenberg Terror is based on a TV series made a few years before and also starring Laurence Payne. Why is there a cloud on the Trollenberg mountain that doesn't disappear and simply moves up and down the slopes? Why do climbers (there's lots of studio rock climbing) keep getting decapitated? In 84 minutes - this is the long version - we find out. Up until we see the monster it's all quite creepy, decapitations, dead men (future Labour MP Andrew Faulds) attacking their friends, Janet Munro's telepathy. However when it comes, the monster is less than convincing, just a big eye with tentacles. It's also particularly interesting to know that the solution to problems in the 1950's is to napalm everything! The picture on this isn't great - there's a lot of grain but the sound it quite good. It's presented in it's 1:66:1 theatrical aspect ratio. For those who like extras there's just a trailer and picture gallery.
