This review is from: Essential PHP for Web Professionals (Essential Web professionals) (Paperback)Got Linux, got Apache, what does PHP do? This book is a good but fairly basic introduction to the major features and uses of PHP. It is aimed at getting Apache and PHP up and running on Linux or That Other Operating System and then writing simple scripts to demonstrate the PHP product.
It's probably most suitable for raw PHP beginners who already have experience with webservers, databases, and some CGI. Beyond that, you'll need access to a proper reference.
It has a few errors (e.g. the installation instructions for installing under Linux have been cut'n'pasted from the Windows section, but someone never finished the editting), but otherwise a worthwhile buy.
