Good, but not the best.,
This review is from: The Unknown Ajax (Paperback)
Georgette Heyer is one of my favourite writers and I have nearly all of her historical romantic books. I admit I haven't read her detective novels. Her writing is witty and clever, with fun plots and likeable and hatable characters with distinct, personal quirks and virtues.
"The Unknown Ajax" is an enjoyable read, but I would have to say not one of her best. The story is typically elegant - a young man, brought up as a "commoner", learning he is the heir to a title and estate. He comes to meet his estranged family, and from there everything spins off nicely. But it isn't the wittiest or most readable of her books: if you're just starting out on Georgette Heyer, begin with something like "These Old Shades" or "Frederica" - though those are only what I'd choose.
