This Is not Family As They Should Be Remembered,
This review is from: Roger Chapman and Family (Audio CD)
Very much as I did in my youth when I would wait for an inferior "best-of" or live album to get a cost effective selection of a bands work, I bough the "best-of" with the most tracks and it was not a good purchase. Have even had the old vinyl out to compare with this.
As the first reviewer mentioned, a lot of this is later live solo material and either re-works of the old standards or crummy "re-masters". Some of the tracks are totally flat compared with the lively originals. The one original sounding track "Good News Bad News" which ends with staccato high followed by the bellowing of a live audience on the original, is faded out, why ?
It is easy to spot the new recordings because of the crispness of the drum track and the "twiddling" of a younger guitarist. Roger, I went to scores of Family's gigs in the 70's and loved every one of them. Do us all a favour and tidy this album up will you ?
