a master class,
This review is from: The Wilderness (Paperback)
I don't read much fiction, and bought this because the lead character develops dementia. And I'm interested in that, and in the technical difficulties of creating fiction based on someone whose mental and verbal capabilities are collapsing. Difficult to see how to do either soliloquy or dialogue. The author succeeds brilliantly in describing a progression which is gently, achingly, sad.
And the writing is so good! Or perhaps I should read more literary fiction. But eg 'She gives Eleanor a curt, kind hug.' I thought this book is an outstanding achievement.
