Great Value, Idiot Proof Video Camera,
This review is from: Drift HD170 Stealth Action Camera (Sports)
The camera is very light weight and durable. Having the screen to preview your viewing angles which is of course great for anything unless it is mounted on your head... which of course you will need a friend to help you with. Using the exposure settings takes a little practice, but as a general rule go for a lower rather than higher level as it is easy to overexpose. The fish eye effect is great and you almost get a 180 view... being able to zoom in with the standard quality recording is good too, which means you do not have to always have the fish eye effect for family recordings. Head mounting takes some practice to get right as the camera is a little bulky which makes it bounce on side mounted on a bicycle helment or goggle mount. Also you often recorde the side of your head with the fish eye lens. Depending on the effect you are looking for this can be good or bad ;-)
If you are looking for a discreate camera to record your cycling commute the stealth will not be the best for you. It is too bulky for this, it is really only usable for extreme sports recording. You can mount it on your handle bars discreetly, but not a discrete head mount, so you can eyeball rear and parallel traffic. If you are doing extreme sports recording this camera is ideal. You will need the expanded battery if you are thinking of using the camera for more than 2 hours continuos use... which is great and I am not complaining here :-) It mounts easily and just about anywhere as all the mounts you will need are included. The remote is a dream and works well.
It is more than water proof and will endure the heaviest of showers. Although this will effect the recording quality as the water collects around the lens.
The microphone is poor quality and because of being mounted on the side it picks up wind quite easily. If you are looking to capture a good sound quality you will definatey need some kind of external mic.
If you can afford it this would be my recommendation for anyone looking to do vlogging or youtube posts of their training sports or extreme sports or adventure holiday.
