This review is from: All Hell Let Loose: The World at War 1939-1945 (Hardcover)
I don't not whether you can enjoy a book which details so much misery and bloodshed. As the child of one of the few surviving D-Day veterans I was dismayed by a pretty damning verdict on the performance of the British army, albeit they were poorly led at certain times. The personal testimony of civilians and service personnel gave me a stunning reminder of what that generation went through and the sacrifices that they made.We are all in their debt!
As a narrative of WW2 I feel that Storm of War is the better book but if you want to know what it felt like to be absolutely terrified for seven years read this book;it was what the title says it was.
