This review is from: Miracle and Other Christmas Stories (Bantam Spectra Book) (Hardcover)
I've just finished this book after being given it for Christmas. I must admit I've not been able to put it down. The eight stories in this book are funny, positive, enlightening and entertaining. They bring back thoughts of what Christmas is all about in many guises, from the commercial and economic to the religious. Though I am not a particularly religious person, the fact that many people see this time as important, as perhaps does Ms. Willis, was enjoyable. What was perhaps most enjoyable was the way that Ms. Willis creates knowledgeable views that are multifaceted and not always similar. Some of the stories (The Cat's Paw, In Coppelius's Toyshop) were quite chilling, as well as humourous. Though I normally read Ms. Willis for her science fiction, I can wholeheartedly recommend this book to others in a much wider audience. It is one that I can see me reaching for on a seasonal basis, year on year - perhaps that was the point! Another winner - how does she manage it?
