This review is from: Bruckner : Symphonies Nos 1 - 9 (Audio CD)
With outstanding performances of Symphonies 5 and 9, very good Symphonies 1,3,4,7 and 8, a goodish number 6 and a disappointing number 2 this set represents wonderful value for money. Anybody looking to get to know Bruckner symphonies should buy this set straight away at its give-away price and supplement it with Georg Tintner's superb Naxos disc of number 2 and Otto Klemperer's yet to be equalled number 6 on EMI. Burckner fanatics like me will already have bought it!

That's the problem with Amazon - prices keep changing, sometimes dramatically; I mean, this set is now at £21.99, which is great value, but as you said £40 or more is a bit steep!

Oh yeah I love that Klemperer's Bruckner 6 on EMI. Thanks for the review, it fills in all the gaps nicely in my collection for not much money. I'd recommend Gunter Wand's live recording of the 9th though, on RCA, recorded in Lubeck Cathedral in 1988, with the NDR Symphony Orchestra, if you can find it.

Are you still a Burckner fanatic?

Klemperer's 6 is at least equalled by Celibidache's.

Neil Ford says:
For 2 and 6, you could also pick up the Horst Stein recordings.
