This review is from: Forgotten Voices of D-Day: A Powerful New History of the Normandy Landings in the Words of Those Who Were There (Kindle Edition)
An area where it's difficult to find something new to say, but the format of this book, which concentrates on the lived experience of these events, does bring something new to the table. I especially liked the accounts of the training in advance of D-Day, while some the accounts on the beaches are just breath-taking. It's also good to see a book in which the British, Canadians and other Commonwealth troops are given their dues - some accounts, such as that by Ambrose, would seem to suggest that D-Day only involved American service personnel. This is not to deny the importance of the American contribution but this account gives a more balanced view.
