Still going strong after all these years!,
This review is from: Going Out In Style (Audio CD)
As far as Dropkick Murphys albums go, this ranks among their best! Their songwriting has matured over the years, but they still retain the same youthful energy from the hardcore days! (which they celebrate on 'Sunday Hardcore Matinee') they have never compromised or become middle of the road, like a good whiskey they just get better with age! I was just a wee lad when Do Or Die was released, but I have been a loyal Murphys fan for almost 10 years now. Along with The Pogues and The Dubliners, Dropkick Murphys will always have a special place in my heart!
Going Out In Style is a concept album that tells the story of a fictional Irish-American union leader named Cornelius Larkin. But don't let the "concept album" tag put you off, it's not a 3 hour rock opera- it's short & sweet, clocking in at just over 45 minutes of raucous Irish punk!
My personal favourites are 'Going Out In Style', the rousing union anthem 'Take Em Down' (which comes from the great American protest song tradition of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger) & 'Peg O'my heart' (featuring The Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen!) and their version of the Pogues/Dubliners classic 'The Irish Rover'.
