This review is from: A Lonely Place To Die [DVD] (DVD)------------------------------ Minor Spoilers------------------------------
I said to my friend before we sat down to watch this film "With these small Bristish thrillers you either get a hidden gem or utter rubbish", well "A Lonely Place to Die was one of the worse films I have ever seen. Firstly the plot is so predictable its funny and its rather dull. Also two third of the way through they try to creat a sub-plot about the men that the kidnapped girl's father has hired trying to get her back but it makes little to no sense and creates more confusion as you have no idea who anyone is. The characters are so hateable I was hoping they wolud all die. There is no character development so you never care about them, you are also never told how they know each other as the group is weird as you have a late thirties married couple hanging out with two young twenty year olds and some random 30ish guy thrown in for no reason? At the start the main cast play cards and there faces and dialogue makes it sound like they want to kill themselfs. Andy (the male of the married couple) is the biggest tosser I have even seen in a film and this wife is not far behind. Also the little girl Anna who they are trying to save is so ungrateful and selfish I would of put in back in the hole. Also near the end they run into a small scottish village and yet there is a rio style festival with naked ladies, fire eaters and fire jugglers and animal masks come on? The acting is wooden and just plain bad, Ed Speleers and Melissa George are okay but the rest of the cast are awful. The film is just plain bad and is it pains me to learn that it got best film at the Actionfest Film Festival in Ashville, USA and has made 25m on a 4m budget. Please don't buy this, lucky for me I only rented. I never write reviews but I needed to make sure people didn't see this pile of rubbish. Anyone giving this 5 star has clearly never seen a good thriller. Avoid.
