Condon-mob jazz of best kind,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Four Classic Albums Plus (Bud Freeman / Chicago And All That Jazz / Chicago- Austin High School Jazz In Hi-Fi / The Bud Freeman Group) (Audio CD)
It was with big scepticism I began to listen to double-CD with different Bud Freeman-groups. The reason is an earlier buy some three years ago on the same label which made me very disappointed and I promised myself that never try an AVID again. AVID's "Dixieland Jazz-The Real Thing" was packed with fabulous jazz with the Condon-mob at its best but unable bunglers at the computor destroyed all the music with strange electronic filters. An old Italian CD-reissues(Wettling-Condon) sounds much better and some USA-labels even better. "Happy Jazz"-session sounds better on an German-CD. "Dixiecats" was once reissued on vinyl(Reactivation) and thiswas the first ever on CD. But even this "VERY NICE!"-Allen-session sounds grotty.
Well, what about this Freeman-double? I am happy to write that AVID this time made an excellent job with the transfers. No stupid filters and wonderful music. "The Bud Freeman Group" is new to CD and even has a bonus track(only on tape before). All the rest have appeared earlier on much more expensive CD's. I will certainly recommend this AVID. LA
