Couldn't put it down,
This review is from: Twisted Dark Volume 1 (Paperback)
I bought a copy of Twisted Dark: Volume 1 at MCM London and while I thought I'd enjoy it based purely on the first story, I had no idea I'd enjoy it so much! Normally, I like to read little but often once I get into a book but there are a few that I can read in one sitting, mostly manga volumes such as Death Note, Blue Exorcist etc. I could NOT put Twisted Dark down and it actually pulled me in when I had the intention of doing other things before starting it.
I love how the stories start off fairly dark, cold, lonely or mundane (as in the characters having a fairly mundane existence) but there are twists at the end of each story that makes the whole thing so much darker. Just be aware that there are no heroes in any of the stories, and even the person that you want to really get behind turns out to be a pretty hideous human-being.
The artwork is just as dark and evoking. Even though each story has a different art style, it always works well and accompanies the atmospheres perfectly. While the styles may not be for everyone, I certainly enjoyed the bleakness of the artwork progressing with the stories.
All in all I thoroughly enjoyed the first entry to Twisted Dark and look forward to reading the other works in the series as well as other series by the team. It may not be for everyone, but it was definitely for me.
