3.0 out of 5 stars Not what was expected, 14 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Raven That Refused To Sing (And Other Stories) [Blu-ray] [2013] [Region Free] (Blu-ray)
I didn't really know what to expect from this, and, having bought the album on CD, expected something more than just still images and the tracks with some footage of how it was recorded. I thought each song might have a video similar to Drive Home and The Raven which you can view freely on you-tube or Steven Wilson's own site. So I was rather disappointed to find myself just listening to the album on TV - even the title track's video was absent...so I don't really know what the point of this DVD is and I rate it as 3 stars only for the interest I have for the recording process itself of which there were excerpts although it was far from a documentary.
To be honest I hoped for more especially at that price and also as I had already purchased the album.

You raise a valid point for those people who are not familiar with DVD or blu-ray audio only discs. I've never really understood why the packaging for these albums are in the same format as video discs; its a little misleading. However, while it would've been wonderful to see accompanying videos to each song, I simply cannot fault this release because 1) The music is incredible, 2) the surround sound is incredible, 3) the sound quality is incredible. This is a release aimed at people who have surround sound systems and appreciate good sound quality. It was never advertised as anything other than what it is. I'm sure you're also aware, but if you really want to see the music videos, then seek out his video-ep (CD/DVD or CD/Blu-ray) called 'Drive home'.

Hi Charlie - thanks for the reply...I realised this when I played about with it for a while and yes, then I bought the Drive Home DVD...and you are right, the music is incredible however you listen to it.
