This review is from: The Complete Studio Albums 1970-1990 (Audio CD)
I have listened to only the first 8 albums so far - up to Eliminator, and contrary to another reviewer I believe that the sound quality is great - anything but 'thin'. This box set has the all-important original mixes of the albums and there is no evidence of over-compression to my ears - which is what makes CD's loud but ultimately ends up loosing the 'light and shade' we used to get with vinyl. There is a warm 'analogue' feel to these CD's. I, for one, would much rather a quiet CD which retains the dynamics or the original recording.
Great sound, great songs and a bargain price for 10 Cd's.

Thinking of buying this, have heard the Chrome Smoke and BBQ remasters and they are truly excellent. Are these remasters as good?

Haven't heard those so unable to comment. As my review says though, very good sound on these.

Thanks for the reply, did a bit of digging and these remasters are indeed the same as the C.S. & BBQ box set from a few years back. Rumour has it that the bands first 10 albums were remastered in their entirety back then, but not every track was included on the box set. The Rancho texicano 2CD best of is also from the same sessions and that sounds wonderful. Will be buying this, but only for 1st, Rio and Tejas. Expensive for just 3 albums, but i've waited a long time to hear them, as they were meant to be heard.

Thanks for the information. Its expensive for just 3 discs I guess but its a nice looking box set and Tejas has the original 3 section gatefold sleeve, as does tres hombres. Worth 23 quid of anyone's money

It's very good value for money even if it involves duplication for some people.
