Potential for a good story but extremely poorly written,

I enjoy the fantasy fiction genre mostly because I don't expect too much from it. As such I am more than willing to overlook poor writing skills however this books is so poorly written that I just could not do that. It feels like it was written by a committee, each member of which had a fundamentally different writing style but on which only one member had some semblance of literary skill.
The book lumbers from excessive and repetitive description of minor detail, often via the mouth of an incidental character as listened to by a protagonist, to poorly written Mills and Boon style romanticised fantasy on the part of a character who had just been raped an on through characters whose motivation and action are entirely different from one page to the next.
I managed to finish reading this book but only by virtue of forcing myself to pick it up again and again after throwing it down in disgust. I appreciate that this is self published and so does not benefit from the attention of editors and the like but surely the author or authors could have had a friend or family member read through it before publishing. Had that been done the book would have been shorter but so much better.
